Meet A Chicken Day

Tri-County 4-H in South Carolina uses a great way to introduce elementary students to what agriculture is all about with "Meet A Chicken Day". Animals of all types make agriculture more interesting and small farm animals like chickens really make great sense. You can bring along further processed products, candle eggs, and especially bring a chicken for the kids to see and touch.

So if you are a planning an Ag Awareness Day or Farm Day for your chapter consider promoting it or having a station at your event where everyone can meet a chicken. But don't limit it to just chickens, there are all sorts of animals that your students never see or come into contact with. Check with your chapter and see what interesting animals you can display and amaze farm day students with.

If you need to brush up on your poultry knowledge or need some help illustrating parts of the chicken then click over to Poultry Judging CDE materials here. Please let us know what you think and feel free to send us ideas or feedback at brian@onelessthing.net.

You'll be amazed how much your students will learn if you let them get frustrated but push them to keep moving forward.
