Texas leads the country in total agricultural land, with more than 247,000 farms and ranches spread across roughly 125 million acres. This state profile introduces students to what makes Texas agriculture so vast and varied, from cattle and cotton to lesser known specialties, and the challenges producers face looking ahead.
Students will explore Texas agriculture through:
- How the state's varied geography, from the Panhandle to the Rio Grande Valley to the Hill Country, shapes what gets grown and raised
- Top commodities including cattle, cotton, dairy, and broiler chickens, and Texas's national ranking in each
